Skin Cancer Reconstructions

There are many types of skin cancer and collectively, they represent the most common form of cancer today. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type and most of those occur on the face. Even though it is very curable, it may leave a large defect on the face that can represent a significant reconstructive challenge. Squamous cell carcinoma is also a very treatable problem as well.

Melanoma is a very serious type of skin cancer and can be deadly. Even if treated appropriately, patients can develop spread of these tumors outside of the area of the original diagnosis. These tumors are treated aggressively with wide excision and reconstruction as well as possible evaluation of the regional lymph nodes. It is beyond the scope of this website to instruct in the particulars of the diagnosis, treatment or prognosis. However, be aware that this is a common problem treated in our office and we will work diligently to assure that you are fully aware of the reason for your treatment plan.
